Labour Supports Launch of “Speak Up Saskatchewan” Campaign

SASKATCHEWAN – Today, ‘Speak Up Saskatchewan’ – a campaign for workers, by workers, to mobilize and demand action on key issues facing regular people – was launched, with support of the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour.

“Speak Up Saskatchewan is of course about raising worker issues, but it’s also about building capacity in our movement,” said SFL President Lori Johb. “A strong labour movement fosters awareness, action, and mobilization, and this campaign is well-suited to do all three.”

Johb thanked affiliated and partner unions that have supported getting the campaign off the ground, and noted that continued support from unions and working people will make a real change, especially at the polls in 2024.

“Scott Moe’s government has turned its back on working people. Our needs and concerns have been ignored, leaving so many of us behind. We deserve better,” said Johb. “We’re building a coalition of people across the province: speaking up for better jobs & bigger paycheques, for schools & hospitals we can rely on, and for a provincial government that gets it.”

People across Saskatchewan are already speaking up:

Young people are expected to pay sky-high tuition while faculty and programs are slashed. It doesn’t make any sense. With affordable, high-quality universities, Saskatchewan could create meaningful opportunities for students and staff alike. – Michael S.

The provincial government has not addressed the devastating impact inflation has on working people. With the skyrocketing price of food and necessities, people are pushed deeper into poverty as the middle class crumbles.- Janelle G.
