Saskatchewan Federation of Union Retirees (SFUR)
SFUR General Information

Legal Status: Non-Profit
Description: Provincial lobby group representing retired public, private, or trade union members. The SURF is affiliated with the Congress of Union Retirees of Canada (CURC), which is an independent retirees’ wing of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC). CURC and the SFUR were established to lobby all levels of government for improvements on issues affecting retirees. Through CURC, the SURF is able to offer retirees health, prescription drug, dental, residential, funeral, and travel insurance benefits.
The SURF and CURC offer pre-retirement workshops that deal with all the major issues, those planning for retirement need to consider. (eg: goal setting, legal issues, housing, changing relationships, retirement activities, volunteering, labour involvement, health, financial matters)
This is an introductory course for union members and their spouses/partners who:
• are coming up to retirement and asking questions about retirement;
• are considering early retirement, or on the verge of layoffs, but who are not sure if they will be able to afford it;
• have or will negotiate a pension plan, serve as a trustee on a board of pension trustees, or take a pre-retirement course through their employer;
• have an interest in knowing more about retirement in general.
